((LLL)) you can't have it both ways.

WOOP WOOP!
We're back for week number TWO of Little Life Lessons!
If you don't know about LLL, click here for more info!

I'm co-hosting with my sweet new-but-feels-like-a-lifetime friend, Kimber. She's got some words of wisdom for you HERE.

And now onto the life lesson I want to share with you this week...
It's pretty short and sweet, and oh-so-important!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

“And you can’t have it both ways, banqueting with the Master one day and slumming with demons the next.Besides, the Master won’t put up with it. He wants us—all or nothing. Do you think you can get off with anything less?Looking at it one way, you could say, “Anything goes. Because of God’s immense generosity and grace, we don’t have to dissect and scrutinize every action to see if it will pass muster.”But the point is not to just get by.We want to live well, but our foremost efforts should be to help others live well. With that as a base to work from, common sense can take you the rest of the way.” | 1 Cor. 10:21-25a (MSG)

I’m pretty sure we’re all guilty of pushing the limits every once in a while. Sometimes when things look appealing, we push the limits and make ways for them to be “okay.” It’s easy to make excuses when we’re trying to justify something that we know wouldn’t please God or edify us. But sometimes, we just need to stop and ask ourselves, “Is this building me up?” The NIV says it this way: “Everything is permissible–but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible–but not everything is constructive.”

I just think this is a really good reminder about our motives behind some of the decisions we make. If we’re really having to dig to justify our actions and we’re constantly making excuses for the decisions we make, it’s obvious that we’re not living with the mindset that we’re here to please our Heavenly Father. And it’s also obvious that we’re focusing on the good of ourselves, not the good of others.

Let this be a reminder and an encouragement to put God and others before yourself. When you’re not sure if something you want to do (or say, watch, participate in, etc.) is okay, ask yourself, “Am I pleasing God? Is this for the good of myself or for the good of others?”

  1. I am so sad I missed the link up this week! It's because I was attempting to fast (which I stink at, btw) from the internet. Next week for sure!

And I agree. It is good to think of how it will come across to God first.

  2. Wonderful reminder!! It's definitely so important to always put God first, and ask yourself what He would want you to do. I need to remind myself of that ALL the time!
