So let's talk about age. I have to be honest -- I usually try to keep my age on the down low. Not because I'm old, but because I'm young. You see, I've been a pastor's wife since I was 20 years old.
(That is one yooooung pastor's wife with a lot to learn.) And ever since I got married and became a pastor's wife, I've felt like people have a certain amount of respect for me until they find out how old I really am. And then I feel super insecure and about two inches tall.

Don't get me wrong. I know that to some degree, I am "young and dumb." There are a lot of people out there that know much more than I know, and I get really excited (and a little nervous) thinking about all the learning and growing I'll experience in my lifetime, especially in ministry. But I often have to remind myself that God equipped me for the call. It's not mistake that I'm a 22-year-old pastor's wife. I don't have to live my life trying to justify myself and prove myself to people. Instead, God wants me to walk confidently on the path He has set before me. And that's exciting! I have nothing to be ashamed of because I can boast in the Lord!

This verse can often sound cliche, but I want you to grab hold of it and figure out how it applies to your life today: "Don't let anyone put you down because you're young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity." | 1 Timothy 4:12

Even if you're not 22 like me...even if you're 30 or 40 or 70 or 80! Don't think that your age makes a difference. When God calls you to something, he prepares you. The importance of God's plan and purpose for your life far exceeds the importance of your age. A lady at Bible study this week found out I'm only 22 and said, "Age is just a number, sweetie." Man...that made my day.

By the way...I know you're all jammin' out to T. Swift in your heads right now. "I don't know about you, but I'm feelin' twenty-twoooo!" :)

And for those of you who are older (I mean that in the nicest, most respectful way possible, of course!): believe in the younger generation! Support the young people so that they can carry out God's plan in their lives with confidence! Encourage them and share wisdom with them!

Thanks for reading! I hope you're encouraged today!

  2. I love this so much. I think there is so much in knowing that christian maturity mostly has nothing to do with age but our sold-out-ness for Jesus!

  4. Love this link up! It's so so great for encouraging others! I can really relate– I'm still young and I feel like people don't take me seriously or compare me to the generalized cliche of my age group. It's frustrating, but I won't let it hinder God's plan for me :) Thanks for hosting, girl!

  5. i've always thought the the younger generation are the ones called to revive and lead the church. nothing against us older folks, because there are so many older people that i admire and have so much to give, but the fact that you are a pastor's wife and twenty two makes you such a great role model to the younger girls. sometimes i think younger girls feel intimidated or embarrased to relate to someone older. at least it was for me. i always loved that my youth pastors were in their twenties and were more easier to relate too. so all that to say, girl rock your age, it's admirable!

  6. Great words, Lindsay! I can so relate. I'm 25 now and I still struggle with my age in ministry and it can be a huge insecurity of mine. (I actually wrote a post about this a couple weeks ago!) I have clung to that 1 Timothy verse over the years and it truly strengthens me - I love it so much.

My LLL post is coming -- I'm just now getting a chance to sit down to write! :)
